Recycling Bin

Postby hendersrelish » Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:16 am

Hi Lorna,

I am not sure whether to ask yourself or Peter the gardening expert this question so I will ask you both. I want to get a good bin that splits my rubbish between the different components of waste and recycling. And I don't know what to get. I have a compost bin in my garden and at the minute I drive my missus mad by putting all of the recycling under the sink and all the newspapers on the dining table in the sitting room. So the place does look a bit of a mess all of the time even if we are doing our bit for the universe. There must be a better way I can organise it.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben

I have to admit that I think the bins that fit under the sink and are divided into different compartments ridiculously small. What would suit your needs depends on whether you have a weekly, fortnightly or monthly recycling collection service, ie just how much recycling material do you tend to have to store. You can now get huge outside bins in the different colours for different types of recycling. If you have a utility room, tubs like these that open at the front yet stack on top of each other can be useful space saving containers for recycling http://www.homerecycling.co.uk/catalogu ... uct_id=75#. and they can be colour coded for tins, paper, plastics etc.
I find the Black and Blum Ring handy for holding magazines and papers for that current month, they simply slip into each other so you can have as few or as many as you like.http://shop.gdlaneinteriors.ie/products ... -ring-ring

I hope that helps :P
