Swine Flu at School

Postby Doyler » Thu Aug 27, 2009 8:36 am

Hi,

Just wondering how people think this will affect attendance at school. Do you think teachers will send children home as soon as they have a sign of a slight cold. I would normally keep mine home if they started getting bad. But if they were just running a slight cold would think they are ok. I wonder now will they be sent home at the slight trace of sneezing or coughing. It could make for a lot of time home.

What does everybody think?

Morning,

I have been wondering the same thing myself. I was talking to my Mother about it yesterday. I would say that they will have to send children home as precautionary. I am a bit worried already as our wee man has asthama and is chesty at the moment. I have visions of him being sent home before he starts back. I am surprised that we haven't heard anything to give us guidelines. Hopefully it would just be that they would be sent home if they were running a temperature. Is there anywhere we that we can get more information?

Morning

I feel that it will be all blown out of proportion and create a panic situation... Mothers instinct is the key here, if you feel yr child is sick and have a temperature keep them at home and if its just a snuffle pack tissues and hand gel!! I have my two guys using the Carex Penguin one it has a nice smell so they dont mind at all!! I keep one in my bag and one in my car.

Cant believe the summer is all but over!!! :)

Hi,

I think you are totally right. And I think a Mum will always know. But will the school have to send them home under instruction from the HSE. I think that will creat pandemonium. It is fine for me. I work from home so can change my schedule around it. But for some parents I am sure that will create havoc. I do feel at times that sometimes a child is sent to school when they should be at home and that is how infection is spread. But will this time end up on it being erring too much on the side of caution? It is an awful situation really isn't it. Youare damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Hi,

I found this document on the Department on Education. Lays it all out about what to do if you suspect flu etc. Basically seems to say if your child is sick at all they need to stay home from school. Here it is here - http://www.education.ie/servlet/blobser ... ne_flu.htm . It is in PDF format just to warn you.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hi,

I knew we shouldn't have started this conversation. I had to bring my wee man to the doctor this morning. And he is due back to school tomorrow. He has been on his inhaler for the last couple of weeks but we were hoping he would fight it off himself. But the ole faithful green nose kicked in at the weekend in time for school. So off to the docs today and he put him on an antibiotic. But he said he was fine for school. But I rang the school today to make sure as I didn't want him arriving in and being sent home. And they said if he had been cleared by the doctor he was fine.

So we will have to watch and see. Tissues at the ready

If i caught the swine flu what should i do? I'm a little sick and a little worry. I'm not going to the doctor unless it's serious so what can i do. It's probably just a cold or something so i was planning of staying home, have some soup, try to get better would that fight off swine flu too?
